Perth Mint tribute
British sovereigns, one of the most influential gold coins in history, were made in Australia from Australian gold between 1855 and 1931. Providing the design inspiration for this exquisitely-crafted modern Perth Mint tribute, the very first Australian sovereign was struck in Sydney with a unique colonial design.
High relief strike
The coin is struck on an extra thick blank to accommodate the significantly raised relief of its key devices – including the crown, laurel, and words AUSTRALIA and SOVEREIGN – all features of the original 1855 issue. The reverse also includes the inscription PERTH MINT, our historic ‘P’ mintmark and a 165 privy mark denoting that 2020 is the 165th anniversary of Australia’s first sovereign.
