Yin and yang

In Chinese culture yin yang represent two opposing principles in nature. Yin is characterised as slow, soft, yielding, cold, wet, and passive; and is associated with water, the earth, the moon, femininity, and night-time. In contrast, Yang is fast, hard, solid, focused, hot, dry, and aggressive; and is associated with fire, the sky, the sun, masculinity and daytime.

Innovative design

The coin's reverse depicts the five Chinese elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, surrounding a stainless steel enamel plated yin yang rotating charm, which represents the continual flow of the five elements as they exist in nature. The design includes the inscriptions WOOD, FIRE, EARTH, METAL and WATER, as well as the Chinese symbols for each of the five elements, and The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark.
