Story

King of birds

According to legend, the Chinese phoenix was once a plain and inconspicuous bird that constantly collected nuts and seeds while other birds frolicked in the forest. But when a drought threatened them with starvation, the phoenix generously shared its food. In thanks, each bird plucked its most beautiful feather to help make colourful new clothing for the ‘king of the birds’.

Coloured artistry

The coin portrays a multicoloured Chinese phoenix in flight. It is surrounded by a collage of other birds among plants, flowers, and clouds, with several in colour.
