Mythological traditions

The griffin is a legendary creature with the body and tail of a lion, the head and wings of an eagle – and physical power that’s many times their combined strength. Over millennia it has variously embodied power, strength, valour, wealth and status, and was adopted in the art of heraldry to represent vigilance and courage.

Mountain design

The coin portrays a griffin in the mountains, where it is said to nest. As well as The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the reverse includes the inscription ‘MYTHICAL CREATURES GRIFFIN’.
