Historic gold coins
The Australian Nugget was the first legal tender gold coin program to be manufactured by The Perth Mint since the cessation of sovereign production in 1931. Debuting in 1986, the original coins were struck in four denominations with artistic representations of historic Australian natural gold nuggets by world-renowned goldsmith and numismatic designer Stuart Devlin.
Australian gold nugget designs
The coins depict the Welcome Stranger (1oz), Hand of Faith (1/2oz), Golden Eagle (1/4oz), and Little Hero (1/10oz) gold nuggets. Within each design a circular area gilded in 22-carat rose gold encompasses symbolic sun rays, the nugget’s name, and a ‘P125’ mintmark. Also included on the reverse is the inscription ‘THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET’, together with the weight and 2024 year-date.
H.M. King Charles III
The Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III and the monetary denomination appear on the obverse of each coin.
Presentation packaging
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the set is housed in a classic display case and black shipper.
