Historic gold coins

The Australian Nugget was the first legal tender gold coin program to be manufactured by The Perth Mint since the cessation of sovereign production in 1931. Debuting in 1986, the original coins were struck in four denominations with artistic representations of historic Australian natural gold nuggets by world-renowned goldsmith and numismatic designer Stuart Devlin.

Little Hero design

The coin depicts Little Hero, a 333oz nugget discovered in 1890 near Marble Bar in Western Australia’s desert region. Within the design a circular area gilded in 22-carat rose gold encompasses symbolic sun rays, the nugget’s name, and a ‘P125’ mintmark. Also included on the reverse is the inscription ‘THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET’, together with the weight and 2024 year-date.
