Story

Four Mythical Guardians

In traditional Chinese culture, the Four Mythical Guardians are auspicious creatures that each guard one of the four cardinal directions, while also representing a season, and one of the ‘five elements’ said to govern change in all things.

Symbolic seasons

The four mythical guardians are arranged diagonally, set amongst a stunning backdrop of mountain tops and clouds.

  • Phoenix, symbol of the south, summer, and fire.
  • Tiger, symbol of the west, autumn, and metal.
  • Tortoise with snake, symbol of the north, winter, and water.
  • Dragon, symbol of the east, spring, and wood

The coin’s design includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
