Story

C-Day

1 March 1975 (known as C-Day) marked the dawning of a new visual age as Australians caught their first glimpse of the vividness of full-colour television. This groundbreaking innovation sparked a cultural revolution that defined the era. In 2025, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of this landmark event.

Broadcasting milestone

The coin showcases an image of a television screen with the words '50 YEARS', set against a background of striking-coloured stripes, symbolic of the colour tests performed during that era. Included in the design are the inscriptions 'C- DAY' and 'AUSTRALIA LAUNCHES FULL-TIME COLOUR BROADCASTING 1975'.
