Renowned engraver John M. Mercanti explores the relationships between a chick and its parents for a beautifully composed new portrayal, his third for The Perth Mint.
Spectacular Mercanti coin design
The coin’s reverse depicts a mother wedge-tailed eagle looking down lovingly on a chick. A male bird is portrayed hovering above them with its magnificent wings fully extended. The design also includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE, the 2018 year-date and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
