Incredible opal tiger

Australia supplies the overwhelming majority of the world’s opal, a colourful mineral-like material that has proved extremely popular as in insert in several Perth Mint collectables. With previous coins in the Opal Lunar series sold out, expectations are high that this year’s tiger design will be particularly sought after.

The coin incorporates authentic Australian opal in its stunning tiger-shaped centrepiece. Including the Chinese character for ‘tiger’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the coin’s outer ring features intricate patterning and stylised depictions of cineraria flowers – considered lucky for those born in the Year of the Tiger.
