Story

Iconic bird series

First issued in 1990, the Australian Kookaburra is a sought-after coin series featuring annual designs of one of our most iconic birds. Famed for its raucous laughing call, the kookaburra is heard across the nation – from the outback to the back yard.

Gilded design

Portraying two kookaburras perched on the branches of a shrub displaying the flowers of Australian native waratah, this coin is struck in high relief with a superb proof quality finish. Adding further to the coin’s spectacular appearance, the kookaburras and the coins rims and serrated edge are painstakingly gilded in 24 carat gold.  The reverse also includes the inscription ‘KOOKABURRA’, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight, purity and 2023 year-date.
