Australian kookaburra

2012 was the first time that an Australian kookaburra coin has been offered in high relief. The coin featured delightful original artistry and was struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

Kookaburras are best known for their unmistakable call, which sounds uncannily like loud, echoing human laughter.

High relief design

The coin’s reverse portrays a kookaburra perched on a tree branch with gum leaves. The design includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the 2012 year-date.

The coin’s high relief reverse and obverse are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
