Cuddly friend

With an almost exclusive diet of up to one kilo of leaves a day, koalas are naturally at home in Australia’s eucalyptus forests where they constantly look for the freshest new shoots.

Original koala design

Each coin's reverse depicts an adult koala walking along a branch of a eucalyptus tree. The design includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the 2016 year-date.

The reverse and obverse of the 1oz high relief coins are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
