Beloved marsupial 

There are few animals more uniquely Australian – and none so cute as the cuddly koala. That’s why, back in 2007, we chose to complement our famous Kangaroo and Kookaburra coins with a new series featuring annual designs of this most beloved marsupial in its gum tree habitat.

Gilded artistry

This 2022 anniversary coin features a 24-carat gilded portrayal of the iconic animal lying on the bough of a gum tree. As well as the inscription ‘KOALA 15TH ANNIVERSARY’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the design includes the coin’s weight, purity and year-date.

The coin’s obverse depicts Jody Clark’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II above a representation of the first Koala design and the inscription ‘2007 2022’.
