Story

Auspicious gem

The reverse of the coin features eight koi fish swimming beneath peonies and encircling a rotating yellow topaz charm. With their ability to swim upstream, koi represent perseverance, strength and ambition, while eight is considered the most propitious number in Chinese culture. The yellow topaz charm which, being the colour of the sun, has traditionally been associated with good fortune and energy. The design also includes The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark.

Antiqued finish

To capture the depth and detail of its design, each coin features an antiqued finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin may vary.
