Fat Cat strikes gold at The Perth Mint

Fat Cat with Paul Graham

We welcomed a very important guest to The Perth Mint earlier this month.

Everyone’s favourite feline, Fat Cat, was welcomed by our CEO Paul Graham to inspect a special delivery we were preparing for the charity Telethon ahead of its annual weekend fundraiser and we’re pretty sure Fat Cat thought they were mint!

We have donated 700 gold-plated medallions to recognise the incredible efforts of Telethon’s community fundraisers who contribute significant time and energy fundraising for the charity.telethon medallion 2024

Established in 1968, funds raised through Telethon have supported medical research into childhood diseases, provided equipment, critical services and life-changing opportunities for sick, disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

The medallions made by the Mint feature Telethon’s mascot, Fat Cat, on one side and the 2024 motto “Incredible Together” on the reverse.

Among the recipients of these medallions were a special cohort of Telethon Student Ambassadors who were recognised by the Premier of Western Australia, Roger Cook, the Minister for Mines and Petroleum, David Michael, and our CEO at a presentation near Parliament House on 15 October.

The Premier thanked the students for their incredible efforts.

“These young ambassadors have shown extraordinary leadership, passion, and dedication in their support of Telethon,” Mr Cook said.

“Their hard work has not only raised vital funds for a cause that is so important to our community but has also equipped them with skills that will serve them well into the future.”

Chief executive Paul Graham said the Mint was proud to support the Student Ambassadors and all of the fundraisers who dedicate their efforts to such a worthy cause.

“These young leaders exemplify the spirit of community and generosity that Telethon inspires across Western Australia,” Mr Graham said.

“We hope that these medallions serve as a small token of our appreciation for their hard work and the positive impact they have made on the lives of children and families in need.”

Wishing our friends at Telethon a wonderful and successful weekend as they work to raise more money than ever to continue supporting sick and vulnerable children and their families all over Western Australia.
