Cubed Perfection: The Perth Mint adds a golden touch to a winter competition
The Perth Mint congratulates all participants at Speedcubing Australia’s Perth Winter 2024 competition held over the weekend of 27/28 July.
The Mint was delighted to sponsor the event in celebration of our new Rubik’s™ Cube 50th Anniversary 2024 2oz Silver Antiqued Coloured Coins.
We proudly donated three of our coins for the event along with 36 free passes to The Perth Mint Gold Tour.
With 43 quintillion ways to scramble a Rubik’s™ Cube, it was absolutely incredible watching contestants as young as seven years old solve the twisty puzzle before our eyes!
Run entirely by volunteers, Speedcubing Australia is not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the Australian speedcubing community.
Speedcubing is the act of solving twisty puzzles, such as the Rubik’s™ Cube, as quickly as possible.
The Perth Winter 2024 event had 100 competitors from nine countries including China and Singapore.
Puzzles included 3x3x3, 4x4x4, 5x5x5 and even blindfolded and one-handed competitions.
A special shoutout to the winners of our Rubik’s™ Cube coins:
- Sarthak Ganesh Shenoy – Fastest Newcomer achieving an average solve time of 17.94 seconds
- Joshua Hounslow – Competition Winner achieving an average solve time of 7.73 seconds
- Jonathan Charlesworth – Competition Runner-Up achieving an average solve time of 8.15 seconds
We wish all competitors the best of luck at the Rubik's WCA Oceanic Championship 2024 which will be held in Perth in December.
