The Perth Mint opened its doors for the first time on 20 June 1899 as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint at the height of Western Australia’s gold rush. Refining newly mined gold and striking quality and highly sought-after precious metal coins and minted products, the Mint has grown into a globally recognised leader in its field. Owned by the State of Western Australia, it is Australia’s oldest operating mint.
The Perth Mint CEO Paul Graham said it was important for the organisation to celebrate this significant anniversary by reflecting on the craftmanship exhibited throughout the past 125 years.
“We are proud to be releasing these 125th anniversary coins to allow Western Australians and the broader public to join us in celebrating this unique and tradition-rich organisation,”
