Jewelled Snake handcrafted for excellence
The Perth Mint is delighted to present The Jewelled Snake, an exceptional collectable showcasing rare and spectacular treasures from two West Australian icons – Argyle Pink Diamonds™ and The Perth Mint.
With only eight of these limited-edition masterpieces available, The Jewelled Snake coins are expected to be purchased quickly by avid collectors.
Launched today as part of The Perth Mint’s Masterpieces series, The Jewelled Snake is the sixth release from its exclusive range of diamond-studded coins, following on from the Jewelled Phoenix, Dragon, Tiger, Horse and Koi coins.
Hand-set rare Argyle Pink Diamonds™ and illustrious white diamonds form the scales of the striking three-dimensional 18-carat gold snake, highlighting the expert craftsmanship, care and precision required to create the coin.
The Perth Mint General Manager of Minted Products, Neil Vance, expects that as with previous coins of the Masterpieces series, The Jewelled Snake will also be in strong demand with the continued allure of gold minted products – which saw record sales in 2022 – showing no signs of slowing.
“We have been operating for 124 years and it is our constant commitment to craftmanship, innovative features, new finishes, quality packaging and limited mintages that makes our products highly sought after by numismatic connoisseurs year after year."
“The Perth Mint takes enormous pride in presenting magnificent masterpieces to the global luxury market and The Jewelled Snake is no exception. We are dedicated to creating unique, collectable art into the future”
With the rarity of Argyle Pink Diamonds™ continuing to appeal to investors and collectors alike following the closure of Rio Tinto’s Argyle Diamond Mine in 2020, The Perth Mint’s Jewelled Series has become a signature collection that continues to intrigue and delight numismatic aficionados around the world.
"It’s a large undertaking to design and craft these intricate coins but the results are outstanding, and we have no doubt that collectors will be impressed by The Jewelled Snake’s design,” Mr Vance said.
“Each Jewelled Snake coin is struck from 10oz 99.99 per cent pure gold, with the hero piece an 18-carat rose and yellow gold snake coiled around a tree branch. The snake’s body is embellished with 175 hand set rare Argyle Pink Diamonds™ and 111 white diamonds, with two emeralds for its eyes - it truly is a striking piece.”
The Jewelled Series is developed each year in association with John Glajz, a Singapore based Argyle Pink Diamonds Icon Partner™ and regional ambassador for the Natural Color Diamond Association.
Sean Rogers led The Perth Mint’s Jewelled Snake design team and said it was an honour to be involved in such a challenging and rewarding collaboration.
“With this series we continuously challenged what is thought possible for numismatic creation. Here, we used hundreds of diamonds and gemstones to create the intricately sculpted snake.
“The finished piece is transfixing and an extraordinary tribute to a creature that’s achieved amazing significance in human culture”
Each Jewelled Snake coin is presented in a luxurious display case featuring two 18-carat gold plates inset with two Argyle Pink Diamonds™. The coin bears The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, featuring the Jody Clark effigy supplemented with the dates of her reign, weight and fineness, 2023 year-date and monetary denomination.
