Not only are they rare – they are finite – found only at the remote Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia, which ceased operations in 2020. With no new supply available, these diamonds have become highly sought after among collectors, jewellers and the world’s largest luxury brands.
In 2024 Rio Tinto presented the Beyond Rare™ Tender: The Art Series 02. Titled Colour Awakened, this extraordinary collection included rare pink, red and blue Argyle Diamonds alongside yellow and white diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada.
The Art Series 02 comprises 48 lots showcasing a total of 76 exquisite diamonds, including individual gems and meticulously curated diamond sets.

What are tender stones?
From 1984 to 2021, the finest diamonds discovered each year at the Argyle Diamond Mine were offered for sale at the annual Argyle Pink Diamonds Signature Tender™. This Tender was widely regarded as the most exclusive diamond sale event in the world.
Following closure of the Argyle Diamond Mine in 2020, Rio Tinto debuted a new tender sale format in 2023 – the Beyond Rare™ Tender: The Art Series. In this new tender event, Rio Tinto included, for the first time, diamonds from its Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories of Canada.
Beyond Rare™ Tender stones represent the pinnacle of Rio Tinto’s diamond production. These extraordinary gems are handpicked from Rio Tinto’s remaining inventory of Argyle Pink Diamonds™, and from annual production of the Diavik Diamond Mine. The Beyond Rare™ Tender is an exclusive, invitation-only event, where diamonds are acquired through sealed bids.
The Tender brings together world-class gemmologists, collectors, and jewellers, all vying for the world’s most extraordinary masterpieces. These diamonds are prized for their unique hues, including rare pink, red and blue Argyle Diamonds™ and yellow and white diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada - exquisite shades surpassed only by the purity of their provenance.
About the Colour Awakened collection
Each annual Beyond Rare™ Tender features a unique theme designed to capture the essence of its exceptional diamond selection. Only the second Beyond Rare™ Tender to be held, the Colour Awakened collection was particularly notable, showcasing some of the most vivid and captivating diamonds from Rio Tinto’s Argyle and Diavik Diamond Mines.
This Tender celebrated nature’s ability to bring rare colours to life, offering gemstones with striking saturation and brilliance. Whether it was the intense purples or radiant reds, the Colour Awakened collection served as a testament to nature’s artistry and impeccable craftsmanship.
These diamonds were curated not just for their extraordinary colours but also for their high-quality polish and symmetry grading. Each piece tells its own story, embodying luxury, sophistication, and rarity.

The Lot 37 Tender stone
One of the most talked-about Tender stones from the Argyle Tender Beyond Rare™ Art Series 02 Colour Awakened is Lot 37. Known for its exceptional round shape, brilliant cut, and weighing 0.55ct (1 diamond), this gemstone captures the attention of collectors and jewellers alike.
