December 2024 marked a key milestone for our laboratory at The Perth Mint Refinery with the installation of a new state-of-the-art robotic mass comparator weighing balance.

The new machine weighs samples after processing, to determine the gold content of customer deposits. This cutting-edge system is part of our commitment to ensuring our laboratory stays at the forefront of assaying technology.

We’re proud to announce that we’re the first in the world to adopt this advanced system for weighing back fire assay cornets—a groundbreaking achievement in our field.

The new balance isn’t just impressive; it’s also incredibly efficient. Programmed to operate autonomously overnight, it can save up to three hours in turnaround times between receiving a sample and delivering the assay results to our customers.

This means our team can hit the ground running and focus their expertise on newly arrived samples. This innovation also reduces repetitive tasks and streamlines processes for Bullion Services and Treasury, creating benefits that ripple throughout our operations such as earlier outturns of payments, leading to increased customer satisfaction.

With this latest technology, we’re not only improving efficiency but also reaffirming our commitment to excellence and innovation, keeping The Perth Mint ahead of the curve in the precious metals industry.
