Super Pit gold makes whole lot of difference to investors
The latest Super Pit 5oz and 1oz Gold Bullion Coins offer investors an opportunity to acquire gold mined exclusively from one of Australia’s oldest and most prolific mines.
The Super Pit is located adjacent to Western Australia’s world-renowned mining town of Kalgoorlie on what was once said to be the richest square mile of gold reserves in the world.
Dubbed the Golden Mile, the area sparked an enormous gold rush during the 1890s. Most of its original shafts and tunnels were swallowed up during the latter half of the 20th century with the creation of a single open cast mine, a hole so large it can be seen from space.
Even after more than 125 years of operations in the area, the Super Pit remains one of Australia’s top four gold mines. Producing 470,000 ounces of gold in 2022, it has enough reserves to stay in operation until at least 2035.
The 2023-dated coins portray an aerial view of the Super Pit, which measures some 3.5 kilometres long, 1.5 kilometres wide and more than 600 metres deep. As well as the mine’s stepped sides, the representation includes ramps on which giant haul trucks remove gold bearing rocks for crushing.
Issued as Australian legal tender, both coins also feature The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and a micro-laser engraved authentication feature.
General Manager Minted Products, Neil Vance said many investors were keen to know where their gold comes from.
“To meet this requirement, we segregated gold from the Super Pit throughout the refining and minting processes, ensuring that the finished products are 100% sourced from the iconic site,” he explained.
With mintages of just 500 5oz coins and 5,000 1oz coins, buyers in Australia are invited to purchase the new releases from The Perth Mint website, in our Bullion Trading Room at 310 Hay Street, East Perth, or through Customer Services on 1300 201 112 during normal business hours.
Overseas buyers should contact leading bullion dealers.
